The Chapora Fort due to its strategic location was most sought after and was held by Prince Akbar, The Marathas, The Portuguese and even the Maharaja of Sawantwadi.

This fort is surrounded by steep slopes from all sides and is quiet an effort to walk to the entrance. There are a few visible signs left inside that shows this site was once a magnificent fort. Even the Church dedicated to St. Anthony built here has disappeared completely.

However the beautiful view to the Vagator beach below is spectacular.
